You're Not Alone in Asking

Yes — AI chat with Amani is completely free, always. Human counsellor sessions are subsidised: Ksh 0 for those who cannot afford it (verified via M-Pesa income proxy) and Ksh 500–1,500 for others. No one is turned away due to cost.

Absolutely. AI conversations are encrypted and not stored after your session ends. Human counsellor sessions are bound by professional confidentiality ethics. The only exception is if you disclose imminent risk of harm to yourself or others — in which case we are legally and ethically required to act to protect life.

That's completely okay — most people haven't. Starting with Amani (our AI) is a gentle, pressure-free way to express yourself first. You can move to a human counsellor when you feel ready. There's no rush and no judgment.

MindSpace is a complement to — not a replacement for — professional psychiatric care. For serious conditions like schizophrenia, severe bipolar disorder, or psychosis, we will help connect you with our network of licensed psychiatrists and partner hospitals. We do not minimise the need for clinical care.

Amani (AI) speaks English and Kiswahili fluently. Human counsellors collectively cover English, Swahili, Kikuyu, Dholuo, Kalenjin, and Arabic. We are working to add more local languages.

Please call our crisis line immediately: 0800 723 253 (free, 24/7). If you are in immediate danger, call 999 or go to your nearest public hospital emergency room. Do not wait.
